Będą zmiany w składach par deblowych
Podczas finałowego turnieju cyklu ATP World Tour w Londynie na dobre ruszyła karuzela nazwisk i możliwych nowych konfiguracji wśród czołowych debli świata. Niezmiennie razem będą grać w przyszłym roku Mariusz Fyrstenberg i Marcin Matkowski oraz Łukasz Kubot z Austriakiem Oliverem Marachem.
Również wspólne występy planują Bob i Mike Bryanowie. Amerykańscy bracia w niedzielę wygrali imprezę w hali O2, dzięki czemu zakończą rok na czele obydwu (indywidualnego i par) rankingów deblowych. Wyprzedzili Kanadyjczyka Daniela Nestora i Serba Nenada Zimonjica, najlepszych w 2008 roku.
Te dwa deble będą rywalizować o prymat również w przyszłym sezonie, ale tuż za ich plecami dojdzie do licznych przetasowań, które mogą zmienić układ sił na kolejnych miejscach w rankingu ATP.
Nowym zawodnikiem wśród tenisistów specjalizujących się w grze podwójnej będzie Mardy Fish, wicemistrz olimpijski w singlu z igrzysk w Atenach (2004). Amerykanin doszedł do porozumienia z Markiem Knowlesem z Bahamów.
- Wydaje mi się, że największym "czarnym koniem" w nowym sezonie może być właśnie para Knowles-Fish, ponieważ ten drugi dysponuje bardzo dobrym serwisem, walczy bardzo dobrze przy siatce. Jak grał singla, to preferował właśnie taki agresywny styl i w połączeniu z doświadczeniem jakie ma Knowles mogą razem bardzo dużo osiągnąć - powiedział PAP Radosław Szymanik, który od września jest trenerem Fyrstenberga i Matkowskiego.
Knowles grał w tym roku z Maheshem Bhupathim z Indii. Sezon zakończyli na trzecim miejscu w rankingu najlepszych par. W Londynie awansowali do półfinału z pierwszego miejsca w grupie A, w której trzecią pozycję zajęli Polacy. Bhupathi będzie od stycznia próbował swoich sił z Białorusinem Maksimem Mirnym.
Mirnyj razem z Andym Ramem z Izraela, dotarł do finału. W niedzielę ponieśli porażkę z braćmi Bryanami. Chociaż awansowali w poniedziałek na piąte miejsce w klasyfikacji ATP, był to ich ostatni wspólny występ, bowiem Ram planuje kolejne starty z Francuzem Michaelem Llodrą.
Na jesieni karierę zakończył Kevin Ullyett z Zimbabwe, choć nie wyklucza, że w przyszłym roku wystąpi okazjonalnie w wielkoszlemowym Wimbledonie oraz w poprzedzającym go mniejszym turnieju na trawiastej nawierzchni. W tej sytuacji jego dotychczasowy partner Brazylijczyk Bruno Soares, z którym Ullyett zajął dziesiąte miejsce w rankingu debli, postanowił wspólnie rozplanować przyszły sezon z rodakiem Marcelo Melo.
W gronie nowych mocnych par, jakie w styczniu rozpoczną rywalizację o osiem miejsc w przyszłorocznym Masters (także w Londynie), znajdą się również m.in.: Wesley Moodie z RPA i Rosjanin Michaił Jużnyj, Jeff Coetzee z RPA i Holender Rogier Wassen, Szwed Robert Lindstedt i Austriak Julian Knowle oraz Słowak Filip Polasek i Czech Martin Damm.
- Myślę, że Zimonjić i Nestor będą grali na podobnym poziomie jak do tej pory, że Bryanowi będą też na pewno na topie. Jeżeli chodzi o nowości, co do samej ścisłej czołówki, to myślę, że Kubot z Marachem po tym roku bardzo uwierzyli w siebie i będą walczyli o pierwszą piątkę. No i Mariusz z Marcinem, jeśli będą w stanie utrzymać dyspozycję z końcówki tego sezonu, to na pewno będą mieli szansę na coś więcej, niż pierwszą piątkę - powiedział Szymanik pełniący od dwóch lat funkcję kapitana reprezentacji Polski w Pucharze Davisa.

Dlouhy & Paes Win Sony Ericsson Open Doubles Title
Third seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes claimed their first title of the season Saturday when they defeated fourth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi 6-2, 7-5 in the final of the Sony Ericsson Open, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.
Dlouhy and Paes took an early 2-0 lead after winning sudden-death points at deuce in the first two games and never let their opponents back into the first set. The team also grabbed an early lead in the second set only to give it back when broken for 3-all. But Dlouhy and Paes, who was his typically aggressive self at the net, broke at 5-all and then served out the match.
The winners of Roland Garros and the US Open last year, Dlouhy and Paes could be the team in 2010 to break the 1-2 duopoly of the Bryan brothers and Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic as the world’s best two doubles teams.
As beaten finalists in Brisbane and Dubai earlier this season, the Indian and Czech Republic teammates are now 3-7 lifetime in finals. Paes won his 43rd tour-level title while Dlouhy claimed his eighth.
Dlouhy said: “Playing with [Leander], it's always great because he has my back always. When I'm struggling with something, he's always with me on the same side and always tells me that nothing happened. We make it like a team. So it always helps you when you know that you are together, you are like brothers. That's the magic of the team, I think.”
Paes said: “What's great actually about doing well this week is there's no pressure now for the rest of the clay court season. We've got to a final in Brisbane and got to quarters at the Aussie Open. Now there's no pressure. Now we're just playing for cream on the top.”
Paes was runner-up at the Sony Ericsson Open in 2003 (w/Rikl) and ’07 (w/Damm).
Mirnyi suffered his first loss in five finals at the event. He has won the Sony Ericsson Open with three different partners – 2003 (w/Federer), 2005-06 (w/Bjorkman) and last year (w/Ram).
Bryans Take No. 59 In Houston; Lindstedt-Tecau Win First In Casablanca
Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan won back-to-back US Men's Clay Court Championship crowns in Houston Saturday to move to within two titles of equaling the all-time doubles titles record.
The Bryans won the final point of the match at 6-5 deuce - which was simultaneously match point for them and set point for their opponents - to claim a 6-3, 7-5 win over Australian Stephen Huss and South African Wesley Moodie, who beat the American twins in the 2005 Wimbledon final.
"This event was loaded with top teams - not necessarily the Top 8 but a lot of Grand Slam champions in this field," said Mike Bryan. "We feel to get out of this tournament with a title; it really bodes well for the clay court season for us."
The Bryans' third title in four years in Houston was their 59th tournament victory, leaving them just two shy of the record 61 team titles won by Australian duo Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde.
"Fifty-nine - it's a big number and yeah, we're looking at 61," said Bob Bryan. "I think we can conceivably shoot that down in the next year if we keep playing well. But who knows? We'll cherish every title that we get."
Earlier in the day the Bryans were presented with the Ernest Langston Sportsmanship trophy, awarded annually to a current or former player or players who demonstrate great sportsmanship during the tournament. The award is named for Ernest Langston, who served as River Oaks International Tournament Chairman from 1946-49 and 1952-56.
"We like playing here - this is a beautiful club," said Mike Bryan of the River Oaks Country Club. "We've had a fun week; I wish we could be here every week."
Third seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau captured their first ATP World Tour doubles title together at the Grand Prix Hassan II on Saturday as they defeated Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 in the final of the ATP World Tour 250 clay-court tennis tournament in Casablanca.
The Swedish-Romanian duo, playing in just their second tournament together, only dropped one set throughout the week and collected 250 ATP World Tour ranking points and €21,650 in prize money.
After securing the first set with two service breaks, Lindstedt and Tecau were made to pay for squandering four break points in the second set as their opponents struck back to level the match. The third seeds recovered to win the Match Tie-break, though, and sealed victory after 81 minutes.
"This was a hell of a match today against Rohan and Aisam,” said Tecau. “They played very well and it feels great to win my second title here playing with Robert only for the second time.”
The 33-year-old Lindstedt won his first ATP World Tour title of the season, having finished runner-up at the Open 13 with Julian Knowle, and improved to a 7-7 record in finals. The 25-year-old Tecau clinched his second ATP World Tour title, adding to the trophy he lifted at the Heineken Open in Auckland with Marcus Daniell in January.
"This was my first time here in Casablanca and I'm very impressed with the organisation,” said Lindstedt. “Everything is very well run and they are doing a great job here. Also we played in front of impressive crowds, which makes it much more fun.”
Indian Bopanna and Qureshi of Pakistan were bidding for their second ATP World Tour title from four finals together.
Nestor-Zimonjic On Course For Title Repeat; Bhupathi-Mirnyi Edge Bryans
Top seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic passed a stern test to book their place in the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Friday, needing a Match Tie-break to defeat eighth seeds Mark Knowles and Bruno Soares 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-6 in 89 minutes.
The defending champions, who defeated Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in last year’s final, are bidding for their third ATP World Tour title of the season to add to triumphs in Sydney and Rotterdam. The Canadian-Serbian duo completed a clean sweep of the clay-court ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournaments last year, also collecting silverware in Rome and Madrid.
In the semi-finals they will face the 2009 Roland Garros runners-up Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman, who came from a set behind to defeat sixth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 in 87 minutes. The South African-Belgian duo is making its debut at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan will face John Isner and Sam Querrey in the first all-American final in the Open Era at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia after both teams recorded straight-sets semi-final victories Saturday at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tennis tournament in Rome.
Reigning ATP World Tour Champions the Bryans crushed seventh seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 6-1, 6-2 with four service breaks in the 49-minute match. The twins, who celebrated their 32nd birthday on Thursday, are bidding to reclaim the title they won in 2008 (d. Nestor-Zimonjic) at the Foro Italico.
The California natives will contest their fourth tour-level final of the season. They have a perfect record in finals this season, triumphing at the Australian Open (d. Nestor-Zimonjic) and in Delray Beach (d. Marx-Zelenay) and Houston (d. Huss-Moodie).
The towering duo of Isner and Querrey held their nerve in two tie-break sets to defeat South Americans Pablo Cuevas and Juan Monaco 7-6(5), 7-6(2) in one hour and 33 minutes. In a serve-dominated encounter, the only two breaks of serve came at the start of the second set; Isner and Querrey saved three of four break points and Monaco-Cuevas saved six of seven threats.
Unseeded pairing Isner and Querrey are through to their second ATP World Tour final together and will look to claim their second title after triumphing at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis (d. Hutchins-Kerr) in February.

Tuż za ich plecami znajdują się Łukasz Kubot i Austriak Oliver Marach - 3285 pkt, których Fyrstenberg i Matkowski pokonali w sobotnim półfinale zawodów ATP Masters 1000 w Szanghaju.
W klasyfikacji prowadzą amerykańscy bracia Bob i Mike Bryanowie - 10 690 pkt, a wiceliderami są Kanadyjczyk Daniel Nestor i Serb Nenad Zimonjic - 7685 pkt. Andy Murray helped give his brother, Jamie Murray, the perfect wedding present Sunday as the brothers won their first ATP World Tour doubles title together with a 7-6(8), 5-7, 10-7 victory over Barclays ATP World Tour Finals hopefuls Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi in the final of the Valencia Open 500.
The Scots were playing their first ATP World Tour doubles final together just over a week after Jamie married Colombian Alejandra Gutierrez in his hometown of Dunblane, with Andy serving as best man. It was Andy’s first ATP World Tour doubles title, while Jamie captured his fifth career title and first since February 2008 when he triumphed in Delray Beach with Max Mirnyi.
“It was a great week, it’s the first time me and Jamie have ever won a tournament together. One of the best wins of my career, that’s for sure,” declared Andy. “It’s amazing [to win a title with my brother]. Very few people can say they’ve managed to do that. We beat one of the best teams in the world in the final. It’s great for me, obviously great for Jamie and I hope he can push on from here."
“Obviously I got married last week and then I had the chance to come here with Andy and play a big tournament here,” said Jamie. “We made the most of it and it was well worth it. I had a great time all week playing with Andy. We don’t really get the chance so often anymore; it was fun to be on the court with him and we played some great matches all week.”
The Murrays, who were a wild card entry this week, edged their third-seeded opponents in a tight first-set tie-break after saving one set point. However, despite rallying from a 1-3 deficit in the second set, two double faults on Jamie’s serve in the 11th game proved costly as Bhupathi and Mirnyi broke serve again to level the match. The Scots recovered well in the Match Tie-break, though, and quickly established a 9-4 lead before closing out victory in one hour and 48 minutes.
Indian Bhupathi and Belarusian Mirnyi are looking to secure one of the four remaining spots at the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Bhupathi dropped to a 45-37 lifetime mark in tour-level finals, while Mirnyi slipped to a 36-33 record.

Czech Martin Damm, jeden z najlepszych deblistów świata i zarazem najgroźniejszym rywali Mariusza Fyrstenberga, Marcina Matkowskiego i Łukasza Kubota, zakończył karierę w wieku 38 lat.
Damm wygrał 40 turniejów ATP. Jego największym sukcesem było zwycięstwo w US Open razem z Hindusem Leanderem Paesem. W 2007 roku zajmował piąte miejsce w światowym rankingu.

Bhupathi-Paes To Reunite In 2011 In Bid To Complete Career Grand Slam
'The Indian Express' will be back on the tracks in 2011, when Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes will briefly reunite in their quest to complete a career Grand Slam at the Australian Open.
The veteran duo first teamed up in October 1994 and has compiled a 223-81 career record, which includes three Grand Slam doubles titles from five finals. Incredibly, they last competed at a major championship at the 2002 Australian Open.
Speaking exclusively to ATPWorldTour.com at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Saturday, Paes admitted: “We’ll be playing together for a little bit at the start of the year.”
Bhupathi confirmed the plan ahead of the season finale in London. “We have had very good success in the past and I think we’ll be able to start off well ahead of our bid to win the Australian Open,” the 36-year-old said.
Paes, who has a 6-6 record in Grand Slam men’s doubles finals, added: “The focus is the Australian Open, the only Grand Slam Mahesh and I have not won together. We won Roland Garros a couple of times, we won Wimbledon and the US Open with different partners, but we have not won in Melbourne.
“We’ll be trying to complete a career Grand Slam. We feel this is a good chance, as a lot of teams are splitting up at the end of the year. The Bryans, the Poles [Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski] and [Wesley] Moodie and [Dick] Norman are the only teams sticking together next year.”
Paes has qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the 12th time. He is competing in the English capital with Czech Lukas Dlouhy.
Bhupathi, who has a 4-5 record in major men’s doubles title matches, picked up the BNP Paribas Masters title with Max Mirnyi in Paris last week.

Wcześniej w tym sezonie dwukrotnie pokonali Polaków, w tym w ćwierćfinale wielkoszlemowego Roland Garros.
- Lukáš jest dla mnie jak młodszy brat. Przyjaźnimy się i doskonale rozumiemy także poza kortem. Jednak od Roland Garros coś w naszej grze się popsuło. Coś nam jakby umknęło. Od kilku miesięcy nie udaje nam się tego odnaleźć, dlatego postanowiliśmy grać

Nestor-Zimonjic End Partnership On A High Note
Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic ended their three-year partnership on a high note Sunday as they were crowned champions of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals for the second time. In a close final they defeated Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi 7-6(6), 6-4 at The O2 in London.
It is the seventh title of the season for the Canadian-Serbian duo, whose earlier triumphs include lifting the trophies at on clay at Roland Garros and the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Monte-Carlo.
The second seeds, who saved one match point to defeat defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in the semi-finals, also won the year-end championships at Shanghai in 2008.
Next year Nestor will team up with Mirnyi, while Zimonjic will join forces with France’s Michael Llodra. In the on-court trophy presentation Nestor joked: “We’ve had three amazing years. People wonder why we are splitting up. The truth is we play great tennis, but we really don’t like each other!”

BOPANNA-QURESHI AWARDED 2010 GRAND PRIX OF PEACE & SPORTS

“The Indo-Pak Express”, Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, were awarded the 2010 Grand Prix of Peace & Sports at the fourth International Forum Peace and Sport in Monaco on Thursday evening.
The US Open finalists, whose slogan is “Stop War, Start Tennis”, were presented with the award by Crown Prince Albert of Monaco and Joel Bouzou, president and founder of Peace and Sport Foundation, in recognition of their efforts to promote peaceful relations between India and Pakistan.
The citation of the award said, “Their commitment to promoting peace between the two countries and their conviction that peace was possible was shown amply during the year. In the US Open tournament they managed to bring together the ambassadors of India and Pakistan to support the same team.”
In presenting the award, Bouzou said he hoped the Indian and Pakistani governments would support Bopanna and Qureshi’s project to organise a symbolic tennis match at the Wagah border checkpost. He asked, “The sport is ready for peace. Will the two governments rise to the occasion?”
After the event, Bopanna said via his Twitter account, “Was a fantastic Gala dinner last night and was really happy to have won the Image of the year award. Really an honor to sit in the same table for dinner as the Excellency Prince Albert.”
Paes turns to acting as well as tennis
Indian tennis king Leander Paes is considering a Bollywood film career at age 37 as his time on court winds down. But the ATP player says that he's not yet ready to give up the sport just yet and is trying to balance both interests.
“Tennis is still up there on the agenda, but yes, I've to find the right balance between films and tennis. I won't be playing more than 14 to 15 tournaments next year, so that there is enough time for shooting and for my family," he said. .
Paes owns 11 Grand Slam doubles titles and is planning to play on in 2011, especially with the London Olympic little more than 18 months away. “I've taken to acting to give expression to my creative instincts which have always been there,” he said, “Tennis was one form, this is a different medium, but the goal is same: to entertain."
Paes said that while the fit between acting and tennis might not be apparent, "the directors and producers I'm working with know that as well. They know they will get quality from me, and that's why they have put faith in me."
Paes will get back on court with longtime rival and doubles partner Mahesh Bhupathi for a trial early in 2011 in Chennai and the Australian Open. "We're playing together after a long gap, so it's important to start at home. We'll see how it goes, how comfortable we are with each other and take a call about our partnership. There's no guarantee we'll win titles and we may lose early also.”
