Re: Tommy Haas

Haas recovering from swine flu

Germany's Tommy Haas, a Wimbledon semi-finalist this year, is recovering from the H1N1 flu virus that forced him to pull out of last month's Stockholm event.
"
I did the test because I suspected I had swine flu. The test came out positive and naturally I was shocked," the world number 17 said.

Haas said the illness forced him to stay in his hotel room for three days with fever and chills.

"These were three very bad days. I did a test again today and I hope that by now the symptoms are out of my body so I can slowly start training again."

Haas wraca do zdrowia

Tommy Haas wraca do zdrowia.

Hey fans,

I'm getting in touch to relieve you of some of your worries. During the last hours news of me suffering from swine flu were featured in the press. This is only partially true, as I am feeling much better by now. A few days ago my GP here in Munich did confirm that I was carrying the H1N1-Virus but a further test yesterday showed that my blood test results are back to normal again and that I managed to get rid of the swine flu virus. That's why I was already training for my comeback in the gym today.

So I am well on the way to claim my starting position in Paris. This wouldn't have been possible only a few days ago. After retiring from the match against Nieminen in Stockholm I tried to recover from the alleged flu in my hotel for 3 days.  But it just got worse and worse. My head felt really heavy, I had a high fever and very nasty body aches.

On Saturday I finally flew to Munich to get a check-up by my local GP. At that point I already suspected that I caught the virus in Stockholm, but I wanted to make sure. The result was positive, which shocked me initially. But I was relieved when I heard that I would probably bounce back quickly due to my good constitution.

So I am in a good mood again. From tomorrow I will be able to see my older sister, who has just gotten pregnant again, my nephew and my little niece. To date, I had to avoid my family as the risk of infection was simply too high.  And I am so relieved that Sarah didn't catch it. She even came to Munich to comfort me. And it really worked.

I am determined to play in Paris-Bercy as I don't want to end the season like this, of course. I am in good spirits. Let's see whether that will suffice for the tournament. Afterwards Sarah and I will cross the pond again as the weekend after next her dad is celebrating his sixtieth Birthday party in Miami. I have a surprise in store that I won't give away here, of course. Who knows, he might be checking...

Many thanks in any case for your good wishes. Fortunately, they are no longer acute.

See you soon and take care.

Tommy

Tommy Haas otrzymał amerykański paszport.

Niemiecki tenisista może teraz wybierać w barwach jakiego kraju chce grać w PD: Niemcy czy USA. Tommy od 20 lat mieszka na Florydzie.

Haas has Davis Cup choice after receiving US passport
Haas has Davis Cup choice after receiving US passport Tommy Haas now has the choice of Davis Cup teams after receiving his US citizenship after nearly 20 years of living in Florida.

The German was sworn in just two months short of his 32nd birthday, with the long-time Florida resident making it official in a ceremony in Tampa.

"I have exciting news to tell, a few days ago I became an American citizen!," Haas wrote on his website.

"Along with about 300 other immigrants from over 70 different countries, I raised my right hand to swear the oath of allegiance.

"I desperately wanted to do this because the United States have really become my home over the past years and that's why I considered it a logical step to apply for naturalization. Of course I wouldn't have done this if I hadn't had the option to keep my German passport."

The move means that Haas would theoretically be able to play for the US Davisd Cup team from September, 2011. He left open the decision on which nation to play should he be picked.

"I now have the privilege of dual nationality and I can continue playing for the German Davis Cup Team. Whether that will be the case in the immediate future, I can't yet say, but when the time comes I will give (captain) Patrick Kühnen my decision."

Re: Tommy Haas

Haas Jumps Into Rehab

Tommy Haas has wasted little time jumping into rehab following right hip surgery last week. The German former World No. 2 spoke to ATPWorldTour.com Wednesday, just minutes before climbing onto a stationary bike for gentle exercise in a rehab clinic at Vail, Colorado,  where he was operated on Friday by leading surgeon Dr. Marc J. Philippon. During the three-hour surgery the doctor found that Haas had a two inch labrum tear and cartilage damage, and removed a 2cm piece of floating bone, which the German has carried with him since birth.

Accompanied by his fiancée, Sara Foster, Haas will remain in Vail for four or five days before deciding to return to either Los Angles or Florida. He will be on crutches for three weeks and has set no date for his return to the ATP World Tour.

“I like it here with the snow, the blue sky, good restaurants and nice people,” Haas said. “I have a passion for skiing so it’s a little tough to be here watching everyone else. It’s not the way I wanted to check out the place. In the future it might be nice to come out here and hit the slopes.”

A veteran of three shoulder surgeries and two ankle surgeries, Haas is no stranger to rehab. Just one month shy of his 32nd birthday, Haas is determined to do what it takes to return as quickly as possible to the ATP World Tour, but admits that this time feels a little different.

“Any time you have surgery you worry a bit. The second time I had shoulder surgery and was out for 15 months I was only 25 years old, so I knew I was coming back for sure. This time it’s a different circumstance. I’m about to turn 32 and have never really experienced much with the hip in my career. I’ve had some weird sensations in my right hip that were going down to my knee and lower back. I lost strength in my right leg. I knew something was not right so I am happy to have found the best doctor in the field and get it fixed. It’s not the best time in my career to have the surgery but I had to get it done. When you’re injured and not playing at 100 percent, there is only so much you can achieve.”

Haas began 2009 at No. 84 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings but ended at No. 18 after an outstanding season. He reached the fourth round at Roland Garros (where he led eventual champion Roger Federer two sets to love), won his first grass court title on home soil in Halle and achieved a career-best semi-final showing at Wimbledon. But all the while he silently wrestled with the hip injury, which he had battled since the Australian Open. Haas underwent MRIs in the middle of last year and again after the US Open in search of answers.

“Anyone who saw me play wouldn’t have suspected there was anything wrong, but there was a lot wrong and it needed to be fixed. It started to bother me back at the beginning of last year, but when you have a good physio and you can put up with a little bit of pain you can play through it. I had some great results in 2009 at the French Open, Halle and Wimbledon and got back into the Top 20, but it kept getting worse and worse.

“I just knew there was something in my hip that was not allowing strength to come back to my leg. I struggled with it long enough. I just needed to find the right place and the right doctor. When I return all depends on how the rehab goes. I’m not putting myself under any pressure by picking a return date.”

Haas, who boasts a 462-255 win-loss record since turning pro in 1996, won just three matches in four tournament appearances in the first two months of 2010. He played last week in Delray Beach, where he suffered a first-round loss to Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Haas promised to keep fans updated on his progress on his official web site, tommy-haas.net

Re: Tommy Haas

Haas to become a father in November

Reported on July 06, 2010

Tommy Haas and fiancée Sarah Foster are expecting their first child this November, Haas' father, Peter, has told German magazine Bunte.

The couple had already announced that they are planning to marry this summer. Haas, who recently became a U.S. citizen, expects to return to the tour towards the end of August after undergoing shoulder surgery in April.

Haas eyes return to tennis after a year awa

http://www.tennistalk.com/images/article/452.jpg

Tommy Haas has a new title – dad – but the first-time father insists he is not ready to retire from tennis just yet.

Once the World No. 2, he has had to drop out previously due to injury and family emergency for two years in 2002-2004 but came back strong and believes he can do it again.

The former Australian Open semifinalist will miss next month’s Australian Open as he continues recovery from right arm surgery, but the 32-year-old Haas says he is committed to making another comeback. The last time viewers got to see him play was at Delray Beach where he didn't make it past the first round.

"It is too early for me to come back," Haas told the German publication Bild. "But I assure you my daughter will see her dad play tennis.”

After becoming a US Citizen in January, his daughter was born to him and wife Sara Foster on November 14, 2010.
