Federer, Nadal to kickstart 2010 with Capitala WTC in Abu Dhabi
World number one and two to play in US$250,000 Capitala World Tennis, but Murray pulls out.
Abu Dhabi: Current world number one and two, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be back in the second edition of the US$250,000 winner-takes-it-all Capitala World Tennis Championship to be held here between December 31, 2009 and January 2, 2010.
However, Andy Murray will not be defending his title in the event in order to concentrate on his Australian Open preparations.
In a press conference at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex, John Lickrish - Managing Director of Flash, Haeng Fine Wong - Acting Chief Executive Officer of Capitala and Greg Sproule, Managing Director, IMG Middle East gave details of the event which has attracted six of the world’s top eleven players.
Apart from Federer and Nadal, the other players are world no. 7 Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, world no. 8 Nikolay Davydenko, world no. 9 Fernando Vesdasco and world no.11 Robin Soderling.
Defending champion Andy Murray has pulled out and organisers said that Murray was skipping events in the region to concentrate on the Australian Open.

Federer, Nadal set to kick things off in Abu Dhabi
The 2010 tennis season won't have to wait long to get started. In fact, both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will be in action right away on New Year's Day in the semifinals of Abu Dhabi's Capitala World Tennis Championship.
The brief offseason does not officially end until Monday, but a prestigious exhibition event will bring an end to the tennis lull on Thursday. That's when the Capitala World Tennis Championship, featuring a stellar six-man field, gets underway in Abu Dhabi.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have free passes into Friday's semifinals, while Robin Soderling, Stanislas Wawrinka, Nikolay Davydenko, and David Ferrer will contest opening matches on Thursday. Ferrer was a late replacement for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who came up with an undisclosed injury during a recent practice and has been advised by his coach to rest prior to the Australian Open.
"It’s great to have the opportunity to play in Abu Dhabi and I am very much looking forward to getting the season underway and joining some of the best players in the world for this tournament," said Ferrer.
"I am extremely disappointed not to be able to participate due to an injury," Tsonga lamented. "I hope that I will come to participate in years to come but in the meantime I wish everyone there a good event and best wishes for 2010."
Ferrer will open against Davydenko, with the winner to face Nadal in the second match on Friday. The first semifinal could feature an all-Swiss affair between Federer and Wawrinka, but Wawrinka would have to get past Soderling in Thursday’s nightcap.
Federer and Nadal also received byes in last year’s installment of the Capitala World Tennis Championship. Nadal made his way to the final by dismissing Davydenko, but Federer fell to Murray in straight sets. Murray went on to beat Nadal in three sets for the title.

Nie powala ten pierwszy półfinał, spodziewałem się trochę więcej mini-gierek w takim spotkaniu, a póki co to mamy czystą łupaninę serwisową.
Papa 7/6.
