Re: Andre Agassi

same za siebie.
Niesamowity charakter, wola walki sprawiły, że to dzięki Niemu wiele osób pokochało ten sport.
Nieprawdopodoby return, wchodził w głąb kortu, by odbierać potężne i trudne do odczytania podania rywali.

W 2003 roku, kiedy dzielnie walczył z new ballsami to właśnie Mu kibicowałem i podziw dla Niego rósł u mnie z każdym kolejnym dniem.

- podali organizatorzy.
Agassi, triumfator ośmiu turniejów wielkoszlemowych i mistrz olimpijski (1996 r.) już brał udział w WTT w latach 2002-2004. "Te mistrzostwa to wspaniały eksperyment. Gra w drużynie to świetna promocja tenisa.

W mistrzostwach WTT biorą udział koedukacyjne drużyny: dwaj tenisiści i dwie tenisistki. Rozgrywa się gry pojedyncze mężczyzn i kobiet, deble kobiet i mężczyzn oraz grę mieszaną (mikst). Mecze rozgrywane są do pięciu wygranych gemów. Jeśli stan meczu jest 4:4, przewidziany jest tie-break, a nawet, jeśli to konieczne, supertie-break.

Latem odbędzie 34. edycja mistrzostw z niespodziankami i pewnymi zmianami.

Agassi rozważa grę w zespole Philadelphia Freedoms (10 lipca) i w drużynie Newport Beach Breakers (17 lipca). Prócz niego w mistrzostwach (2-26 lipca) mają wystąpić inne gwiazdy tenisa, m.in. Martina Navratilova, Venus Williams, Anna Kurnikowa, John McEnroe i Michael Chang.

Wielki człowiek, i tyle .

Tennis great Andre Agassi's autobiography to be released in November

NEW YORK — Andre Agassi's autobiography is heading to book stores in November.

In the book, the eight-time Grand Slam singles champion discusses his start in tennis as a child, his relationship with his father and his failed marriage to Brooke Shields.

Agassi writes: "No one ever asked me if I wanted to play tennis, let alone make it my life."

He retired from professional tennis in 2006.

Re: Andre Agassi

Agassi, others honored at U.S. Open

NEW YORK -- Andre Agassi took his customary four-cornered bow on Center Court on Monday night, and the crowd roared, as always. But this time the retired tennis icon was wearing a dark suit and was being applauded for his work off the court.

Agassi was one of four athletes honored for contributions to society, along with Doug Flutie, Mia Hammand David Robinson. Agassi's foundation has raised $75 million for at-risk children and the charter school he started in Las Vegas in June graduated its first class.

All of the students graduated and are attending college this fall.

``Hello, New York, I've missed you!'' Agassi said. ``I have shared this court with many great athletes, but I am extra proud to share it tonight with athletes who are not only great but doing great work.

``As a pro tennis player for so many years, I traveled the world and saw firsthand the inequalities that exist. I came to believe that if we say we care, we must do. I focused on education because the earlier we interrupt that downward spiral, the more profound we can impact the life of that child.''

Flutie, best known for his Hail Mary pass against the University of Miami, has an autism foundation in honor of his son, Doug Jr. Hamm, the Women's World Cup soccer star, raises awareness for bone-marrow transplants in memory of her brother, Garrett, who died from complications of a transplant. And Robinson, the former NBA star, founded the Carver Academy, for disadvantaged youth in San Antonio.

Agassi later was asked what the young Agassi would think of this Agassi.

``I think he'd be prouder than the reverse,'' Agassi said, smiling. ``When I look back, I'm not terribly thrilled at some of my decisions, but it's been a continual growth.

``There's a tendency with kids to treat them at different stages, especially when you grow up in the public eye, as if they're a finished product -- when, in fact, you're constantly in process. It's what life is, what the journey requires.''

Agassi said his next objective is to spark ``legislative change'' that will create more opportunities like his school.

SERENA OPENS UP

Serena Williams has a memoir coming out this fall, and among the things she reveals is how depressed she was following the murder of her sister Yetunde in 2003.

Williams went into a funk and gained weight, and her game suffered.

``It's a motivational book, and all the people that read it are kind of motivated through my struggles,'' she said. ``I felt what makes a champion isn't how well they do, it's about how well they can recover when they fall. I was on top of the world, and then things came crashing down.''

RODDICK ON TWITTER

Andy Roddick, who posts regularly on Twitter, mocked efforts to restrict athletes from tweeting. Players received a memo reminding them not to share inside information that could aid gamblers.

Roddick posted on Titter: ``i think its lame the US Open is trying to regulate our tweeting. . . . i understand the on-court issue but not sure they can tell us if we can't do it on our own time -- we'll see. . . . i definitely respect the rule about inside info and on court, but u would seriously have to be a moron to send `inside info'' through a tweet.''

ALL LIT UP

The Empire State Building was lit in ``tennis-ball yellow'' in honor of the U.S. Open.

Re: Andre Agassi

Andre Agassi rules out comeback

An abbreviated transcript of the chat:

Question: A buzz word in tennis these days is "comeback." You've got Kim Clijsters winning the U.S. Open, and Justine Henin just announced she's returning to the sport. Andre, are you eyeing a comeback?

Agassi: That would be negative. No, no. I'm sure Kim has inspired a lot of people. But she can't inspire this 39-year-old who understands their weaknesses much better than their strengths.

Question: So this is the second of three years that the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships has been held in Surprise. Jim, where do you see this tournament going in the future?

Courier: Well, certainly the tournament was off to a terrific start. We had wonderful crowds, great tennis. And coming back this year, having Andre join the tournament, obviously for tennis fans, is something extremely special because Andre doesn't play very often. CTCA signed for three years, so there's another return next year.

Question: Andre, have you been to Surprise before?

Agassi: I have not. But I'm looking forward to it. Every time I've been to Arizona, I've loved it. I grew up in the desert. As a result, I've always felt very comfortable there.

Question: Andre, you've played at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (now Fairmont Scottsdale) hotel when it still hosted tennis tournaments. There's been talk that the Surprise tennis facility could fill the void that the hotel left, in terms of providing professional tennis to Valley fans. Your thoughts?

Agassi: It was a great tournament. It's been a loss certainly for that community to not have that event. So to regain it somewhere (else) and allow sports fans (a chance) to get out and enjoy tennis, I think it's a great thing.

Question: And Jim, any thoughts from you?

Courier: One of the great things about this tournament is that it does provide that opportunity for fans that might miss out otherwise. They don't have to travel too far to see tennis in their own backyard.

Question: Right now, tennis has Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick. What are your thoughts on the current group of top players on the men's side?

Agassi: The first thing you have to do is put it into context of what we've been spoiled with over the last number of decades. . . . The standard is pretty high and the sport is growing. . . . As a result, we're not seeing quite the same level of dominance with the talent that's out there now, with Federer and Nadal. But I think Roddick has represented our sport in a great way. I think he's one of the greatest competitors, not just in tennis but also in sports. . . . It wouldn't be right to not have an American somewhere in the near future step up and really put their stamp on the game. That's what you hope.

Benefit raises $8M for Agassi school in Vegas

(AP) – 1 day ago

LAS VEGAS — A weekend benefit concert raised nearly $8 million to support retired tennis star Andre Agassi's public charter school in Las Vegas.

Officials say Agassi's foundation, used to support the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, also received a pledge of $7.5 million over five years from the Engelstad Family Foundation.

The Saturday concert at the Wynn Las Vegas casino featured comedian Dane Cook, rock band Daughtry, country musician Tim McGraw and R&B singer Brian McKnight.

Officials say the $7.5 million gift will be used to establish a campaign to try to raise student funding in Nevada.

The K-12 school uses the concert funds for its operating budget. The school has roughly 600 students and graduated its first high school seniors this year.

Re: Andre Agassi

Surprise serves up higher prices for tennis tournament

He's the star player in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships.

The city's also holding off on selling the cheapest seats until the start of the tournament, which is being held at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex Thursday through Sunday.

"With Agassi, we believed that the market could bear it," said Mark Coronado, the city's recreation director. "Last year, we were pricing ourselves out."

This year, the average ticket price is $37, up from $26 last year, a 42 percent increase, even during a down economy.  And until Oct. 8, tennis fans only can purchase gold and silver seats, gold being the nearest to the court and silver the next closest.

Surprise's ultimate goal is to exceed last year's ticket sales of 9,595 and break even.

Operating on a $750,000 budget, Surprise is responsible for every aspect of the sports event, while InsideOut Sports & Entertainment, a New York-based event producer, brings in the players.

Coronado said the city strives to recover the cost through concessions, ticket and merchandise sales, and sponsorships.

Re: Andre Agassi

SZOK!

Jak pisze www.nydailynews.com, sprawa narkotyków dotyczy roku 1997, kiedy to tenisistka wyleciał z pierwsze setki rankingu ATP i stracił kompletnie chęć do wszystkiego.

http://www.sportfan.pl/artykul/12849/sz … -na-potege

Oto on:

Re: Andre Agassi

Re: Andre Agassi

Federer, Nadal i inni zabrali głos w sprawie.

Federer, Nadal 'disappointed' by Agassi

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both voiced their displeasure at Andre Agassi after the former world number one revealed he took the recreational drug crystal meth in 1997 and lied about the reasons for a positive test.

"To me it seems terrible," world number two Nadal said at an awards ceremony in Madrid. "Why is he saying this now that he has retired?

"It's a way of damaging the sport that makes no sense.

"I believe our sport is clean and I am the first one that wants that.

"Cheaters must be punished and if Agassi was a cheater during his career he should have been punished."

World number one Roger Federer, who beat Agassi in the final of the 2005 US Open, also spoke of his sadness at the eight times major winner's admission in his new autobiography "Open".

"It was a shock when I heard the news." Federer said at a sponsors meeting at Kilchberg near Zurich.

"I am disappointed and I hope there are no more such cases in future.... our sport must stay clean."

However Agassi found support at home with fellow American and Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick saying the 39-year-old remained his hero despite the revelations.

Roddick, the leading US men's player who lost to Federer in this year's Wimbledon final, was one of many compatriots who remained unfazed by Agassi's admissions.

"Andre is and always will be my idol. I will judge him on how he has treated me and how he has changed the world for (the) better," Roddick wrote on his Twitter page.

Roddick said Agassi's letter to the ATP, in which he told the governing body he had failed a drugs test because his drink had been spiked, came at a time when the player was far from his peak.

"To be fair, when Andre wrote the reported letter, he was well outside the top 100 and widely viewed as on the way out," said Roddick.

Women's world number two Serena Williams reacted to the news by plugging her own book.

"I don't even know what crystal meth is so, you know, that's what my reaction to it is. I haven't read anything about Andre Agassi's book. All I know is that I have a book coming out," she told reporters at the WTA Championships in Doha.

Serena's sister Venus, the world number seven, added: "His book will probably sell. It seems very interesting, to say the least."

US media has been restrained in its response to Agassi's admissions, which have appeared in excerpts from the book.

The New York Times noted Agassi was able to bounce back from his dark spell and enjoy a successful end to his career.

"The question is: Might it all have turned out differently without Agassi's reprieve from the doping panel, without his lie?" it asked referring to the five majors he won after 1997.

However, CBS columnist Ray Ratto questioned the motive behind Agassi's revelations.

"We're not here to kick a guy now that he's back up, although in fairness we've always found honesty to be more refreshing when it doesn't come at $31.99 a copy."

Re: Andre Agassi

Chciałbym poznać całą sprawę do strony prawnej i później zareagować - dodał.

- To coś okropnego. Skłamał, uciekł przed konsekwencjami a potem kontynuował karierę.

Osądzic Łysą Pałe i jeszcze pozabierac szlemy!!!!!!!11

Andre Agassi admits: 'I wore a wig... and it lost me the French Open'

Former Wimbledon champion Andre Agassi wore a lion mane-style wig during the 1990s to hide his baldness.

The tennis legend admits, in an extract of his book published in Germany yesterday, that during one match he struggled to stop it falling off altogether - and lost as a result.

'Every morning I would get up and find another piece of my identity on the pillow, in the wash basin, down the plughole.

I asked myself: you want to wear a toupee? On the tennis court? I answered myself; what else could I do?'

In the French open in 1990, he was in the final, his first in a Grand Slam tournament.

'Then a fiasco happened,' he said. 'The evening before the match, I stood under the shower and felt my wig suddenly fall apart.

'Probably I used the wrong hair rinse. I panicked and called my brother Philly into the room.

'"It’s a total disaster!" I said to him. He looked at it and said he could clamp it with hair clips.

'It took 20 clips. "Do you think it will hold?" I asked. "Just don’t move so much," he said.

'Of course I could have played without my hairpiece, but what would all the journalists have written if they knew that all the time I was really wearing a wig?

'During the warming-up training before play I prayed. Not for victory, but that my hairpiece would not fall off.

'With each leap, I imagine it falling into the sand.

'I imagine millions of spectators move closer to their TV sets, their eyes widening and, in dozens of dialects and languages, ask how Andre Agassi’s hair has fallen from his head.'

He lost the final against Andres Gomez from Ecuador.

It was Brooke Shields, whom he married, who suggested he ditch the hairpiece.

'She said I should shave my head,' he said. 'It was like suggesting I should have all my teeth out.

'Nevertheless, I thought for a few days about it, about the agonies it caused me, the hypocrisy and lies.'

It took him 11 minutes to become a chrome-dome.

'A stranger stood before me in the mirror and smiled,' he said.

'My wig was like a chain and the ridiculously long strands in three colours like an iron ball which hung on it.'
