"Mimo kryzysu gospodarczego Australian Open wciąż pozostaje silną marką i wizytówką naszego kraju.

Panasonic sign three-year deal
Australian Open organisers are proud to announce the signing of a new three-year sponsorship deal with electronics giant Panasonic.
Commencing in January 2010, the agreement also encompasses Australian Open Series events, the Medibank International Sydney and the Brisbane International.
The new partnership will see Panasonic Australia as the official TV, Camera and Air Conditioning Sponsor of Tennis Australia and the Australian Open, incorporating its market-leading products – LUMIX digital still cameras, VIERA TVs and Inverter Air Conditioners
“We are excited to have Panasonic committing to what will be an enduring and successful relationship,” Tennis Australia’s CEO Steve Wood said today.
“Panasonic is a leader in its field and we believe the brand offers a natural fit for the Australian Open and the Australian Open Series events.”
“Their sponsorship will provide an enormous contribution to the game of Tennis and I look forward to working closely with Panasonic Australia in the future,” Steve Wood said.
Steve Rust, Managing Director, Panasonic Australia said: “We are thrilled to sponsor Tennis Australia as the official TV, Camera and Air Conditioning partner, and be associated with one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events – the Australian Open.
“The game of tennis has a large, passionate following in Australia, and at the elite level the game enjoys both huge match attendance as well as large television and radio audiences,” Rust continued.
Australian Open 2010, presented by Kia Motors in association with ANZ, Jacob’s Creek and Rolex, will take place at Melbourne Park from January 18 to 31.

TENNIS RANKED MOST POPULAR SPORT IN AUSTRALIA
Tennis has again been assessed as the sport of most interest in the latest Sweeney Sports Report. The survey on Australian public’s sporting preferences ranked tennis No.1 in the interest category in its Winter 2009 edition.
The Sweeney Sports Report found:
Tennis is the most popular sport with an interest level of 58 percent
Tennis ranked first in television viewing, third in participation (up 1%) and equal fifth in attendance
In a capital city comparison, the interest in tennis was highest in Sydney (65%) followed by Melbourne (60%), Adelaide (56%), Brisbane (55%), Perth (48%), Hobart (47%) and Canberra (40%).
The interest level was highest among females aged 45 plus (71%) and participation highest among females aged 15-29 (25%).

Sweeney has surveyed Australians’ sporting interests for the last 23 years, interviewing 2000 people a year and publishing the results twice annually (Winter and Summer).
Tennis Australia Director of Tennis Craig Tiley said the results were encouraging but cautioned that the sport still had a lot of work to do.
“A positive trend is starting to emerge which is good,” Tiley explained.
“Four years ago we embarked on a thorough assessment of how we deliver the sport and then made some major structural changes. We are now starting to see the results of these changes.
“Sweeney is one of several positive indicators showing substantial improvement in tennis interest and participation. Far from celebrating we are on the contrary continually assessing and fine tuning in partnership with the states, clubs, centres and coaches on further improvements to enable the easiest access to tennis.”
Some of those positive indicators include:
170,000 increase in the number of people playing tennis since 2007 (latest ERASS survey)
15% increase in tennis ball sales
27% increase in the number of competitive opportunities available to players
“Not only do we want to continue and increase growth in the sport but we want to translate that growth into more numbers in the clubs, centres and competitions.
“A lot of our participation is made up of social players or kids starting out. We know we have a great sport and our aim is to make it easier for them to enjoy it - more often and for longer,” Tiley said.
Tennis Australia in conjunction with its Member Associations, which are based in every state and territory, will tomorrow launch a new advertising campaign for MLC Tennis Hot Shots.
The aim is to introduce MLC Tennis Hot Shots into schools throughout Australia and have 168,000 children playing the introductory version of the game by June 2010.

by niewesoło.

Wyniki 1/4:
Jesse Levine (1) def. Eric Quigley (8), 6-2, 6-2
Michael McClune (5) def. Lester Cook (4), 6-3, 6-2
Ryan Harrison (6) def. Alex Kuznetsov (3), 6-3, 6-3
Donald Young (2) def. Jack Sock (7), 3-6, 6-2, 6-0
