The eighth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the season, the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 – Presented by Rolex, features 17 of the Top 20 players in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, including eight of the Top 10.

The top seed is World No. 2 Rafael Nadal, who is coming off a semi-final effort in at the China Open in Beijing (l. to Cilic). The 23-year-old Spaniard, who ranked No. 1 for 46 consecutive weeks from August 18, 2008 to July 5, 2009, has compiled a 27-4 record in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments this season. Three of his titles have come in Masters 1000-level play (Indian Wells, Monte-Carlo, Rome). He has a tough opening-round assignment against the winner of James Blake - Ivo Karlovic and the first seed he could meet is No. 14 Tommy Robredo in the third round (Nadal leads 4-0).

In the quarter-finals, the Spaniard could face No. 7 Fernando Verdasco (Nadal leads 10-0) or No. 11 Gael Monfils (Nadal leads 5-1). Unseeded Lleyton Hewitt and Ivan Ljubicic are also possible quarter-finalists. Verdasco takes on the winner of Julien Benneteau - Ljubicic in the second round, while Monfils meets countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round with the winner to play Hewitt or John Isner.

In the second quarter of the draw, US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro plays the winner of Jeremy Chardy - Jurgen Melzer in his opening round. The Argentine could meet No. 16 David Ferrer in the third round (tied 2-2). Ferrer has a tough opener with Frenchman Richard Gasquet (Ferrer leads 4-1). In the quarter-finals, del Potro's possible seeded opponent is No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (del Potro leads 3-0) or No. 9 Robin Soderling (tied 1-1). Tsonga plays the winner of wild card Shao-Xuan Zeng or Dudi Sela, while Soderling opens with Romanian Victor Hanescu.

In the third quarter, No. 4 Andy Roddick is the highest seed followed by No. 6 Nikolay Davydenko, who reached the final at last year's Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. Roddick, who plays a qualifier or Stanislas Wawrinka in his opening match, could face No. 13 Radek Stepanek in the third round (Roddick leads 5-1). Stepanek has a difficult first round against former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero (Stepanek leads 2-1). Davydenko will take on the winner of the all-Russian first round between Igor Kunitsyn and Igor Andreev (Kunitsyn leads 1-0). Davydenko is a combined 7-1 against his countrymen. The first seed Davydenko could meet is No. 10 Fernando Gonzalez (Davydenko leads 5-0).

In the final section of the draw, No. 2 Novak Djokovic, who won the Tennis Masters Cup last year in Shanghai and has a 25-7 record in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 play this season, takes on a qualifier or wild card Ernests Gulbis in his opening match (Djokovic leads 2-1). The Serb could meet No. 15 seed Tommy Haas in the third round (tied 2-2). Haas battles countryman Benjamin Becker in the first round (Becker leads 1-0).

Djokovic's possible quarter-final opponents are No. 8 Gilles Simon (Djokovic leads 3-1) or No. 12 Marin Cilic (Djokovic leads 3-0). Cilic, who is playing Djokovic in the Beijing final, has a tough first round against Tomas Berdych (Berdych leads 1-0). The Cilic-Berdych winner will likely take on Marat Safin in the second round. The Russian plays Chinese wild card Mao-Xin Gong.

Teoretycznie Kubot nie powinien dostaĂŚ wiĂŞcej niÂż 3-4 gemy na seta, tylko , Âże teoretycznie Wawrinka powinien byĂŚ w top 5 i mieĂŚ z 15 wygranych turniejĂłw.

Dlatego rĂłwnie dobrze moÂże ograĂŚ Polaka gÂładko, jak i zostaĂŚ pokonanym rĂłwnie wyraÂźnie.
