Roland Garros Champion Nadal Recaptures No.1 Ranking, First To Qualify For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal has overtaken Roger Federer at the top of the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings after his 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 win over Robin Soderling in Paris on Sunday.
Following his seventh career Grand Slam title, Nadal also becomes the first player to qualify for the season-ending 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 21-28 November. Only the world’s Top 8 players at the end of the season qualify for the showpiece event in London.
“When you qualify for the World Tour Finals you have to be very happy because it proves you have had a very good season. Last year the crowd and the stadium were unbelievable. Playing in London is always a special feeling. I have amazing memories of London,” said the World No.1.
Nadal’s triumph at Roland Garros completes an incredible 22-match winning streak during the clay-court season, in which he became the first player in history to win all three clay-court ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events in the same year. The Spaniard also became just the second man in history to win five Roland Garros titles, with only Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg ahead on six titles.
Nadal last held the No.1 ranking on 29 June, 2009, when he was surpassed by Federer. The Spaniard now overtakes the Swiss again, with Federer just one week shy of equalling Pete Sampras’ all-time record of 286 weeks at No.1.
Nadal leads the ATP World Tour with four titles in 2010. Fans can now look forward to seeing Nadal compete 3 times in the UK during the season. He is due to compete at next week’s AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club in London, before playing Wimbledon for the first time since his dramatic triumph at The Championships in 2008.

BBC To Broadcast Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
The BBC has agreed to a two-year deal to broadcast the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London's O2 Arena in November.
The tournament is the conclusion to the men's professional tennis season and features the world's best eight singles players and doubles teams.
Under the deal the BBC will screen a live match every day of the 21-28 November event, including the opening match, one semi-final and the final. All the matches broadcast on the BBC will be available on the iPlayer.
In 2009 the tournament moved from Shanghai to London, where it will be held for a period of five years. The BBC first showed last year's finals - with the showpiece setting an all-time indoor tennis attendance record as 256,000 fans packed into the east London venue over eight days.
Nikolay Davydenko triumphed in London last November, becoming the first Russian to win the ATP World Tour Finals with a superb display against Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro.

Federer Qualifies For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
World No. 2 Roger Federer has secured his place in the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London, 21-28 November. The Swiss clinched his berth after beating Argentine Brian Dabul in the first round of the US Open Monday night. The season-ending tournament on the ATP World Tour features the world’s top eight singles players and eight doubles teams competing to be officially crowned as the 2010 ATP World Tour Champions.
Federer, a five-time ATP World Tour Champion (2004-07, '09), joins current World No. 1 Rafael Nadal as the only singles players to have clinched their berths in this year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Nadal finished as ATP World Tour Champion two years ago and has held No. 1 since 7 June, after capturing his fifth Roland Garros crown.
Federer, 29, will be making his ninth consecutive appearance in the year-end championships. He is a four-time winner, in 2003-04 in Houston, and 2006-07 in Shanghai. He owns a career mark of 29-7 in the event. In 2009, he reached the semi-finals in London.
"I am very happy as it is the ninth consecutive year I have qualified for the year-end event," Federer said. "I have played in a lot of different venues during my career and I can say they staged a fantastic event at The 02 last year. I look forward to returning there in November and finishing the season strong."
This season Federer captured his 16th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open (d. Murray) and in his last tournament prior to the US Open, he earned his 17th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown in Cincinnati (d. Fish). His 63 career titles is tied for fifth place (w/Bjorn Borg) on the Open Era titles list. Federer also was runner-up at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid (l. to Nadal) and Toronto (l. to Murray) along with Halle (l. to Hewitt). He is on course to finish in the Top 2 for a record eighth consecutive year.
He is one week shy of tying Pete Sampras for the most weeks (286) at No. 1 in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings (since 1973).
The tournament is the world’s biggest indoor tennis event, where each of the top eight players are drawn to play a minimum of three round-robin matches to determine which four players advance to the knockout semi-finals. Tickets are available online through.

DJOKOVIC QUALIFIES FOR BARCLAYS ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS
US Open finalist Novak Djokovic has qualified for the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 21-28 November. Djokovic clinched his place in the season finale after advancing to the final of the China Open in Beijing with a 7-6(1), 6-2 win over John Isner on Saturday.
The Serb, a winner of the season-ending event in 2008, has been a model of consistency throughout the season, reaching the quarter-finals or further at each of the four Grand Slams, as well as capturing his 17th career title in Dubai in February.
“I was really happy to hear the news. It's four consecutive years for me to get to the Finals, so this achievement means a lot. Of course I will do my best to get even further than I did last year to try to pass the group stage, but there's still a way to go. It was incredible how many people came out and watched us last year. I really look forward to playing in front of that crowd in The O2 again.”
Djokovic joins Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as the first three players to qualify for the event. Only five more places are up for grabs as the likes of Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and Robin Soderling continue to battle for South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings points in order to secure their places in the coming weeks.

Soderling Qualifies For Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
Robin Soderling has qualified for the 2010 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Soderling, who reached the semi-finals of the season finale in London last year, becomes the fifth singles player to qualify for this year’s event - to be played at The O2 21-28 November. The Swede joins a blockbuster line-up comprised of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
Soderling, who fell in the quarter-finals of this week's If Stockholm Open, is guaranteed to finish among the world's top eight following today's release of draws at next week's ATP World Tour 250 tournaments in Vienna, St. Petersburg and Montpellier.
“I’ve always dreamed about playing at the World Tour Finals. I had some really good memories from last year. Hopefully I can take that experience and do even better this time. There are only eight players and you play against the world’s best so every match you play could be like a Grand Slam final. I will have to be ready from the first match,” said Soderling.
The Swede has enjoyed the best season of his career to date, capturing the ATP World Tour 500 event in Rotterdam, as well as reaching the final at Roland Garros for a second consecutive year. He also reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the US Open and currently lies at a career high No.5 in the South African Airways 2010 ATP Rankings.
Soderling’s qualification also means his self-portrait, created using paint-covered tennis balls, will be displayed as part of the ‘Art of Tennis’ exhibition at La Galleria Pall Mall in London from 8-18 November. Only the world’s top eight players who qualify to compete in the season finale will have their original works of art exhibited in London and auctioned online for charity through: barclaysatpworldtourfinals.com/ArtofTennis.
Only three singles berths remain up for grabs at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with less than four weeks left in the regular ATP World Tour season.
