The Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open, the fifth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, returns for the second year at the state-of-the art Caja Magica (Magic Box).

This year's 56-player field features 12 of the Top 18 players, including seven of the Top 10. Leading the way are World No. 1 and defending champion Roger Federer, No. 3 and last year's runner-up Rafael Nadal, and World No. 4 Andy Murray. Other Top 10 players include No. 7 Robin Soderling, No. 8 Andy Roddick, No. 9 Fernando Verdasco and No. 10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Nadal is trying to become the first player to win all three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 clay-court tournaments in the same season. He's also attempting to become the all-time leader in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 titles. He tied Andre Agassi's mark of 17 with his last title in Rome. En route to his title runs in Monte-Carlo and Rome, he's only dropped one set and been broken four times.

With the withdrawal of World No. 2 Novak Djokovic due to illness, Nadal could regain the No. 2 ranking if he wins the title and enter Roland Garros as the No. 2 seed.

Federer's top half of the draw includes No. 3 seed Murray, No. 5 Roddick and No. 8 Marin Cilic. Federer's opening-round match (after a bye) will be against the winner of Carlos Moya and Benjamin Becker. Moya is coming off a foot injury and this is the Spaniard's first tournament since Indian Wells. Federer is 7-0 against Moya (3-0 on clay) and 1-0 vs. Becker.

The first seed Federer could face is No. 15 Stanislas Wawrinka in the third round. Federer is 3-1 against his countryman but Wawrinka won the only clay-court meeting in Monte-Carlo last year. Wawrinka opens with wild card Marcel Granollers. In the quarter-finals, Federer could meet Roddick (Federer leads 19-2) and last year Federer beat the American in the same round in Madrid. The other possible seeded quarter-finalist is No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny (Federer leads 10-0), who is in the Munich final.

Roddick opens against the winner of Lukasz Kubot - Feliciano Lopez. Youzhny plays Lukas Lacko in the first round and Rome semi-finalist Ernests Gulbis (vs. Albert Montanes) could be a second-round opponent for the Russian.

In the second quarter of the draw, Murray is the highest seed and he plays the winner of Pablo Cuevas and a qualifier in his opening-round match. The first seed Murray could meet is No. 14 Sam Querrey in the third round (Murray leads 3-0). In the quarter-finals, No. 8 Cilic (Murray leads 4-1) or No. 9 David Ferrer (Ferrer leads 2-1, both wins on clay) are the seeds he could face.

Cilic plays the winner of Paul-Henri Mathieu - Eduardo Schwank while Ferrer takes on Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the first round. Ferrer, who is coming off his first career ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final in Rome (l. to Nadal), leads the ATP World Tour with a 23-4 match record on clay (most wins).

In the bottom half of the draw (third quarter), No. 4 Soderling and No. 6 Verdasco, are the highest seeds. If they meet in the quarter-finals, Soderling is 4-2 lifetime but the Spaniard won the last meeting in the Barcelona final last month.

Soderling opens against the winner of Nicolas Almagro - Viktor Troicki (Almagro leads 1-0). Soderling is 3-1 against Almagro and he's never played Troicki. In the third round the Swede could meet No. 16 Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil (never played). Verdasco takes on the winner of Evgeny Korolev and Ivo Karlovic (Karlovic leads 2-0). The Croat is 3-1 lifetime against Verdasco and the Spaniard has never faced Korolev.

In the final quarter, Nadal opens against a qualifier or Italian Andreas Seppi (Nadal leads 4-1) and the first seed the Mallorcan could meet is No. 16 John Isner in the third round (Nadal leads 1-0). Isner advanced to his first ATP World Tour clay-court final in Belgrade and he plays a qualifier in the first round.

No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and No. 12 Gael Monfils are Nadal's possible quarter-final opponents. Nadal holds 5-1 career marks against both Frenchmen. Tsonga opens against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez or a qualifier and Monfils plays countryman Stephane Robert. If both Frenchmen reach the third round, Tsonga is 2-0 against Monfils.

Lopez def. Kubot 6-3 6-3

Słaby mecz, bardzo źle zagrał Łukasz. Starał się prowadzić grę, atakować, ale błędów było zdecydowanie ponad limit, stąd tak gładki wynik dla Felicjany, który teraz zmierzy się z Rodem, nie powinien mieć Andy większych problemów.

W innym meczach jedna niespodzianka, Kohlschreiber po świetnym starcie (6-1) przegrywa z Santiago Giraldo z Kolumbii. Gael raczej planowo, za niespodziankę można też uznać porażkę Seppiego z Dolgopolovem z Ukrainy.
